Coloration:
The coloration occurs the original paste color paste. Dark-Tones Ref. M5001-M5007, Bright-Tones M5008 and M5010-M5026 (M5009 is the natural white tone of the coarse-grained base and M5027 is the natural white tone of the fine-grained base). Never shake Rivesto-Marmorino® for coloring, instead stir slowly and add slowly the choose color paste as stirring. This requires little time but must be made at least 3 days prior use, so that the mixture material can regenerate and became a paste again. In this form MARMORINO is most pliable. All bright tones are achieved by mixing 1 Tin (1 kg) of colorant to 1 Bucket (24kg) of basic paste (fine or coarse-grained), for dark tones mix 2 Tins (2 kg) the same way to the same measure of basic paste. For larger or less quantities use same ratio. The 25 color pastes shown in the catalogue can be mixed with each other for a larger color variety, but this must be done before mixing the color paste with the base paste. For achieving colors darker or brighter, the ratio can be altered; yet by the dark color tone (ref. M5001-M5007) there is a limit due to viscosity.

Foundations/Undercoats
Any mineral based foundation/undercoats is good, e.g. cement, concrete, plaster, drywall, bagast- board (plywood), but also nonporous surfaces like metal, plastic, glass, etc. As a rule, all strongly water absorbent foundations/undercoats must be saturated with a water based, solvent free emulsion coat, mixed with silver or quartz sand to assure that the Rivesto-Marmorino® has enough time to bond with the foundation/undercoat. By smooth nonporous foundations they must be treated with water based, solvent free primer, mixed with silver or quartz sand to ensure adherence to the foundation and to get enough thickness of Rivesto-Marmorino® during the first work phase.

Important:
After the final (third) application phase Rivesto-Marmorino® became again his stone-structure and as a result it cannot expand or straightened. If the foundation/underground is flexible Rivesto-Marmorino® may crack or split (adherence to the wall will not be effected). To prevent cracking/splitting the foundation/underground must be stabilized. Never sand or grind surfaces, except to repair or smoothen corners.

Application
After the required foundation/undercoat treatment as mentioned above, Rivesto-Marmorino® is applied basically in three work phases that could consist of several coats applied and refined. To impregnate the final surface an additional work phase with Rivesto-Marmorino® is required (never use glance or polish material as wax etc.).

  • 1. Work phase

In this work phase basically uncolored material, fine-grained version (M-5127) or coarse-grained version (M5009), is app-lied to the foundation/undercoat. Approximately 600-700 gr/m2 for the fine-grained version and 800-900 gr/m2 for the coarse-grained version. The surface of this coat does not really affect much the end result, yet the kind of strokes, will be visible at the end, so it is important that the material must be applied in a regular/irregular curved or circular motion. Important is laid on speed and apply enough material in regular thickness on the entire surface.
After the first coat a drying time of at least 24 hours (if humidity is over 70% at least 36 hours) must be observed. If the drying period is not observed, especially in this work phase, cracking and/or splitting may occur during the third work phase (final threat/compression of the surface) or also after a few weeks after terminated work, occurred by tensions in the material due to the humidity/moisture not dried out completely.

  • 2. Work phase

This work phase is the most important one. First: from this phase on it must be used colored material in the color decided for the end look. Second: after this phase the surface must be completely smooth, but only through trowelling it (do never sand it). Third: the decided kind of decoration, normal ones like in the catalogue or also drawings, marbling, imitations of tiles, logos, and so forth must or can be achieved. The usage of material (always the same base, but colored) is about 300-400-gr/m2 Drying time 3-4 hours. For the decorative aspects there are no boundaries, but it is recommended to do decorations, which will be on normal marble too, otherwise it seems like an imitation.

  • 3. Work phase

This is the final phase where the surface is strongly compressed, the surface turns back to a stone immediately during application and after a drying time of 4-6 weeks the complete applicated material too. After this work phase no more change is possible, the achieved decoration will be closed in the material and cannot be removed, except destroying or overworking it.
The compression will be achieved only in a mechanical way with a special trowel in different strokes beginning very gentle and increasing the pressure depending of shine grade desired (inever use polish material as wax or similar products and polish machines).
Because hardened material cannot be compressed, it must be put on a smooth coat of the same colored material as used during the second work phase, 50-100 gr/m2. If it is used another color the aspect changes completely because each color covers entirely the previous (e.g. white covers black). After 5 maximum 10 minutes this coat must be compressed. Because of the short 'open' time it is re-commended to work at least during this phase with two people, one who applies the last coat in a real regular and smooth way, the other one will do the upon described compression.

Surface Protection
The finished surface can be protected from stains and grime by applying on RIVESTO-IMPREGNATION®, (Ref. M5500). It is recommended to do the application also with the trowel because of the very small quantity needed per m2, maximum 40 gr. If too much paste is applied, then the excess will come out of the RIVESTO-IMPREGNATION® in a powder form after a few weeks. This powder can then be wiped off easily with a dry woollen cloth. Never try to rub or press it back. RIVESTO-IMPREGNATION® never alters the appearance of RIVESTO-IMPREGNATION®, that is to say, it's color and shine remains the same and does not fade or yellowing.

Tools
Use always the high quality, elastically (springing), rust free (Inox) and, most importantly, polished trowels, RIVESTO-TOOLS®, that will not leave any marks or traces behind on RIVESTO-MARMORINO®. For the final phase a dedicated trowel must be used which was never used in the previous passes to prevent scratches. Excess scraped or exceed material (also colored) can be used again for another first phases (mixed with white material) but never for the second or third phase

Outside Applications
The following aspects must be considered for external use:

  • The ground must not be warmed up by sunshine or elsewhere (the material will be absorbed too fast)
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight or strong wind (the material may dry too fast)
  • Do not apply by rain or too humid weather conditions etc. (too much moisture)
  • Do not apply below 5° and over 45° Celsius (40° and 110° Fahrenheit)

Identification
Toxin Classification: free (BAGT-Nr. 61 73OO)
Fire Resistance: Non-Flammable
Transport: No Danger (based on RID/ADR)

Cleaning
Wash tools, hands and other body parts immediately after use, with normal water.

Precautions
For application on ceilings: wear glasses for protection. If it happens that material fall in eyes, wash it immediately with a lot of clear water and call a doctor. It is recommended for longer works to wear gloves to avoid drying off the skin.
